For neighbors who want to plant some chestnut trees of their own, we are now offering bundles of trees and tubes. Each $30 unit includes:

• 1x bare-root seedling chestnut trees from exceptional orchards in North America. Of blight-resistant hybrid (Chinese, American, Japanese, and European chestnut) parentage.

• 1x Plantra 71" SunFlex Grow Tubes

• 1x Plantra 84” fiberglass stakes

• 3x Twist-ties

Seedling trees are between 18-36” tall, and about 1/4” caliper, nursed organically by either Breadtree or our nursery partners. You’ll need to dig at least a 12”x12” hole (preferably more like 18”x18”) to plant each tree. Chestnut trees prefer well-drained, slightly acidic soils and will not tolerate heavy soils or wet feet. These are vigorous trees that can grow to 12-20’ in 5 years.

Bare-root trees will be available in the spring time (usually early April). You will need to pick them up, handle them carefully (roots stay moist), and plant them promptly. We suggest watering in the trees after planting, but they should not need to be watered after that. In cases of extreme drought, they can be watered once a week.
