This year the 117th Annual Conference of the Northern Nut Growers Association will be held at University of Massachusetts Campus in Amherst, MA. Diversity can be a powerful approach to increasing farm resilience. Join Breadtree Farms, who manages 800 acres in the Upper Hudson Valley and Southwest Vermont, to learn how they are stewarding 20,000+ food-producing trees and shrubs — including chestnut, hickory, oak, seaberry, apple, pear, mulberry, and persimmon — in orchards grazed by sheep and cattle. Together, we’ll tour their multi-function landscapes, hear about their ongoing research projects and learn about their mission to bolster food sovereignty and security, while fostering healthy ecosystems, biodiversity, and sequestering carbon. This workshop is supported by the Transition to Organic Partnership Program.

Our team recently returned from a three week research trip to Italy and we learned a lot! We’ll report on our trip, share key takeaways we’re bringing to our facility’s design process, and dialogue about the future of chestnut processing in the U.S. We’re hosting two sessions so that everyone who’s expressed interest can make it live, and we’ll send out a recording for those who can’t.
