Spring 2025 Community Planting Day

  • Breadquarters 2129 County Road 153 Salem, NY, 12865 United States (map)

Whether you're brand new to planting trees or an experienced orchardist, come join us for a day of spring planting! It is always so joyful to plant trees in the spring ground with friends and neighbors. All ages welcome. Everyone will receive a hands-on demo, training, and personal support to ensure you go home with a good understanding of how to plant bare-root trees well in a production orchard setting.

We will be planting the last chestnut field at BQ, before moving on to some exciting side quests — which include interplanting trees that grow winter fodder for our sheep (holly, honey locust) and interplanting diverse timber trees that support pollinators and other wildlife (black locust, catalpa, sassafras, tulip tree, hybrid cedar).

  • We'll plant from 10-4, with a lunch break. We’ll bake some chestnut biscuits, but please BYO lunch.

  • Folks coming from farther away are welcome to camp for the night (plenty of barn and outdoor space available).

  • If you’re a young farmer interested in future paid work with Breadtree, this is a great first step to meet our team and have the opportunity to work together.

  • If you're anyone who is seriously interested in agroforestry and travel to this event is prohibitively expensive, please be in touch. We have a limited number of travel stipends available for folks who need them.

Please RSVP by getting a ticket. We'll send out more info to registered attendees closer to the date. Rain date is Sunday, May 18th. Contact bug@breadtreefarms.com with any questions.
