FALL 2022: DOORWAYS

In the second week of November 2022, Breadtree and friends established 1800 seedling chestnuts on 22.5 acres at Doorways, a 116-acre site we are restoring in the Battenkill valley. Work was completed in 4.5 days.

What were recently bare, gullied hillside cornfields are now visibly healing. Worms are back, and a newly lush cover of clover and rye will be grazed in 2024.

Doorways is now home to 3,800 seedling chestnut trees on 41 chestnut acres.

In Spring 2023, a third installation will bring that total to 4,400 seedling chestnuts on 55 onsite chestnut acres, plus about 2,000 more trees on 20 acres of client sites just across the river.
